Operation Round Up
WHAT IS OPERATION ROUND-UP?
Operation Round-Up is a program designed to provide financial assistance to worthwhile activities and community projects.
HOW DOES OPERATION ROUND-UP WORK?
Each month, we "round up" the electric bills of participating monthly billed customers to the next highest dollar. For example, if your March bill is $52.73, we would round it up to $53.00. The additional 27 cents would go to the Operation Round-Up fund.
The average yearly contribution from each participating cooperative customer is about $6.00. The most a customer could contribute in a year is $11.88. And, contributions are TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
WHAT IS THE MONEY USED FOR?
That decision ultimately lies with the trust board which administers the funds. By-laws allow the trust board to make donations to any worthwhile charitable cause, with the exception of political organizations or candidates.
CAN OPERATION ROUND-UP FUNDS BE USED TO PAY ELECTRIC BILLS?
Funds may be used to pay electric bills, however BENCO Electric Cooperative does not encourage this, or any practice in which the program might be viewed as self-serving. Donations of this nature are certainly allowable in any circumstance that the Trust Board considers a critical need.
HOW ARE OPERATION ROUND-UP FUNDS APPLIED FOR?
Applications are designated for either an individual or an organization in need. The correct form must be completed and forwarded to the Cooperative or a Trust Board Member, and a decision is then made on disbursement of funds.
ARE OPERATION ROUND-UP DONATIONS LIMITED TO COOPERATIVE MEMBERS?
No. Donations may be made to anyone or any organization within the area that BENCO Electric Cooperative serves. This decision was based on the fact that the Cooperative wanted Operation Round-Up to benefit the entire ten county region.
WHAT TYPE OF DONATIONS ARE MADE WITH OPERATION ROUND-UP FUNDS?
According to the bylaws, The Trust Board is allowed to make donations to any worthwhile community cause, with the exception that no Operation Round-Up funds can be used for political purposes. Donations can be made for food, clothing, shelter, medical and educational needs.
